Opening paragraph length

AEOWeight 5.0% (This check's share of the AEO score)Score 0

What this is

We measure the length of the first paragraph of your main content, in characters.

Why it matters

AI engines and Google's summaries favor an opening that makes the point in a sentence or two. Too short leaves nothing to quote; too long buries the answer.

What counts as passing

Passes at 40 to 160 characters; 20 to 39 or 161 to 250 characters is a partial pass; anything else, including no paragraph at all, fails.

Opening paragraph length is 15. Aim for 40-160 characters — too short lacks context, too long buries the answer.
