What this is

Whether images on the page have alternative text (alt), a short written description of what each image shows.

Why it matters

Google and AI engines can't see images and rely on alt text to understand them, which also affects whether images appear in Google Images. Screen readers for blind users read it aloud too.

What counts as passing

90% or more of images with alt passes; 70–89% is a partial pass; under 70% fails; not scored when the page has no images.
